Rejection of enrollment application
If you receive a rejection letter after you apply to enroll, see the answers below to frequently asked questions.
What does a rejection letter mean after I have applied to enroll?
You may receive a rejection letter after you apply to enroll if you have not met the admission criteria or the enrollment application does not attest to the information provided in the online application or supporting documents are incomplete. This renders your admission void and enrollment will be refused. The rejection letter will state the reason for refusal.
Can I have the reason for my rejection reviewed?
You can review the accuracy and completeness of the information and documents in the online application(s) you submitted and in the enrollment checklist yourself:
- Online application: STiNE > Log In > Application
- Enrollment application: www.uni-hamburg.de/imma > My data.
- Enrollment checklist: See your acceptance letter at STiNE > Log In > Application > Documents for the link to your checklist.
Can I submit missing documents later?
No. The enrollment deadline is the final deadline. Therefore, you can no longer submit missing documents.
I have further questions about the rejection letter. Whom should I contact?
First check your information and documents as described above.
Please only contact the Applications, Admissions, and Student Affairs Team if you have any other question about the letter or your documents.
For direct contact with the team, it is best to respond to the email through which you were informed about the letter. If you no longer have this, use the contact form at www.uni-hamburg.de/admission.
Can I apply again for this or another program in the current application procedure?
Yes. There are are 2 options:
- The local remaining places procedure: Vacant places are offered shortly before the semester start (September) in a local allocation of remaining places www.uni-hamburg.de/restplaetze.
- Coordinated succession procedure for DoSV degree programs: For some degree programs offered through the Dialogue-Oriented Service Procedure (DoSV), you can submit a new application in the coordinated succession procedure. This applies only if you have not already been admitted through the DoSV procedure. Information about programs, application requirements, and admission procedures
Can I find out now in which degree programs vacancies will be offered?
Whether there are vacancies depends on how many people accept their offer. This cannot be predicted. Therefore, we request that you refrain from asking beforehand.
Can I change degree programs later if I start studying another subject first?
Students at the University of Hamburg or another university can change subjects or transfer. This requires you to submit a new application in the upcoming application procedure; you will thus be competing again with all other applicants.
Consult our pages in a timely manner for information about deadlines, admission requirements, and required supporting documents.
Note that in exceptional cases, you can submit a hardship application for health reasons when changing subjects.
If necessary, contact the Office for Students with Disabilities.
Changing subjects and longer periods of study may affect social benefits such as BAföG, child benefits, health insurance, or your residence permit. If necessary, contact the advising offices responsible.
You can also seek advice from Studierendenwerk Hamburg.
What can I do if I cannot study at the University of Hamburg as planned?
You can apply again for the degree program at the University of Hamburg in the next application round. Until then, you can consider the following options:
- Study at another university: Is that an alternative for you? Other universities also offer vacancies in remaining places procedures or at later times. Degree programs at other universities
- Make up for missing requirements: Get language certificates, professional experience, or other proof by the next application round.
- Internships, work, or voluntary work: Gain experience that can help or fund your later studies.
- Guidance at the University of Hamburg: Find out more about curricula, requirements, and teaching methods in different subjects.
