Local Student Board

EUGLOH stands for European University Alliance for Global Health. It is a European network of 9 Universities striving towards creating a joint multicultural and inclusive campus with joint courses and programs, common research activities and seamless mobility for students, staff and professionals – physical and virtual.

Imagine having an easy access to courses with ECTS at University of Paris Saclay, or being able to participate in a summer school in Tromsø free of charge without tons of bureaucratic procedures? This is what EUGLOH is about!

EUGLOH seeks to empower future generations to find solutions for Global Health challenges, but it doesn’t focus on medicine only - every topic connected to global health is included. EUGLOH’s focus areas are: Urban & Rural Health: Health in Living Contexts; Sustainability & Biodiversity; Resilience & Disaster Preparedness; Digital Health, AI & Medical Technology.

University of Paris-Saclay (France), Lund University (Sweden), University of Porto (Portugal), University of Szeged (Hungary), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Germany), University of Alcalá (Spain), University of Novi Sad (Serbia) and Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø.

EUGLOH members work together in different councils and Work Packages (WP). Each work package has a different topic, its own tasks and objectives. There are WPs related to the internal organization, strategy, but also those devoted to topics like the development of joint courses and programs or designing EUGLOH campus life with many student activities. These activities are supported by the Local Student Boards at each partner university. You can read more about EUGLOH and its governance here.  

The Local Student Board is a student council designed to ensure student participation in the Alliance. It is an important part of the EUGLOH decision making process. Every EUGLOH University has an established Local Student Board with about 8-20 members. Local Student Boards elect one representative from each university for the International Student Board (ISB), that can nominate students for the Governing (President level) and the Executive (Vice-president level) Boards. The participation in the LSB is on a voluntary basis - you decide what topics you work on and how much time you invest. The participation includes regular online / f2f meetings, organizing activities, collaborating with other LSBs and university groups, social gatherings and occasional travel to partner universities (covered by EUGLOH). And all that with other likeminded students from your own university!

Each LSB has its own structure and a decision-making process, so it is up to you and your fellow members to decide on the structure of your work. The LSB in Hamburg and the UHH EUGLOH Management Team will provide you with necessary support and resources and always there to answer any question and help you navigate through the Alliance.

•  You get to meet and exchange with likeminded students from UHH and the EUGLOH partner universities: 9 universities in  8 countries.
• You will be part a fun and active group of students, that organize events, workshops, co-create cources or just enjoy a social gathering in a park or a bar.#
• You will be able co-create the Alliance with your ideas and directly participate in its decision-making. If you are already involved in groups or initiatives at UHH with topics relevant to the Alliance, you will be able to bring your ideas to an international dimension and reach a wider audience.
• You will get to enjoy occasional travel opportunities to EUGLOH universities paid for by the Alliance.
• You will be the first to know about EUGLOH events, courses, summer schools and workshops that aim at teaching you new skills for your studies, your research or your future job.
• A participation certificate and recommendation letter for the participation in the Student Board will be a nice add-on to your CV

• You have to be a student of Universität Hamburg (Bachelor/Master/PhD) and have at least one year left to study.
• English skills (basic level). Your English doesn’t have to be perfect and we don’t need a certificate/proof, but we expect you to be comfortable in expressing yourself in English and understanding others.
• Everyone who is motivated and willing to join is welcome! It would be of advantage though, if you had a relevant profile in the broader topic of global health, here are some examples: medicine, (bio)informatics, health economics, business administration, climate change, diversity, inclusion, sustainability, social sciences related to global health etc. Students with a background in communications/marketing are also very welcome!
• Intercultural competences, or motivation to gain these.
