BNITM Information Event – One Health and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
When: Thu, 07.05.2026 10:30 AM until 12:00 PM
Where: Bernhard-Nocht-Institut für Tropenmedizin, Bernhard-Nocht-Straße 74, 20359 Hamburg, Hörsaal
This event takes place in German.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the greatest global challenges to public health. Bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics can make infections difficult to treat and thereby threaten progress in modern medicine. The One Health approach considers the close interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health and plays an important role in understanding and combating antimicrobial resistance. In this event, researchers from BNITM will provide insights into current scientific perspectives on AMR and demonstrate why interdisciplinary research is crucial for sustainable solutions.
The next BNITM information event will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., in the historic lecture hall of the institute (Bernhard-Nocht-Straße 74, 20359 Hamburg), on the topic of One Health and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Speakers:
Dr. Denise Dekker (Head of the One Health Bacteriology Research Group) will explain why One Health studies are important in research on antimicrobial-resistant bacteria in Africa.
Dr. Jan Priebe (Head of the Health Economics Research Group) will discuss antibiotic sales in pharmacies in Sub-Saharan Africa and assess whether information campaigns can help reduce the illegal distribution of antibiotics and thereby limit the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
Further information and registration details can be found on the BNITM website. Admission is free.
